So close.....
Roller coaster weekend in the Silver Stick Tourney ends with a battle versus the Lincoln Blades.
What a great weekend of hockey for this hard working team. A determined Rangers team travelled to St. Clements to participate in this years Silver Stick.
The boys started slow in the first game versus the Lincoln Blades and found themselves down 2-0 after the first period. The team battled back as Alex Tadeson scored a third period goal, but despite a late surge the Rangers opened the tourney with a 2-1 loss. Micah Aube earned the games hard hat with his strong defensive play.
Later in the day the Rangers came out on fire as Luke Abbott netted a hat trick and Noah Frankovich had 1 goal and 3 assists versus the Tavistock Titans. Once again our strong defense lead by Jayden Julien and Hudson Hinich only allowed a few shots on net. In the end it was our captain Thomas Boehmer that lead the way with his hard work. Thomas earned the hard hat for his efforts as the Rangers downed the Titans 7-2.
Next up was a very strong St. Mary's Rock team in a game that would see the winner advancing to the semi-finals. This was definitely a total team effort and the Rangers just wouldn't quit! Adrian Resovac opened the scoring in the first and goalie Nick Tavares went on to shut the door as the Rangers won 4-2. Nick Tavares played his best game of the year and walked away with the hard hat.
Off to the semi's we go against an unbeaten Tillsonburg Tornadoes team. Once again our team came ready to play in what was an exciting nail biter that sent the Tornadoes home. With a great shot from the point Max Sciullo opened the scoring with his first goal of the season. The Tornadoes battled back until Broden Powell scored the game winner in the 3rd period. Austin Murphy sealed the win with an empty netter as the clock expired. Rangers win 3-1! Max was awesome from start to finish and found himself taking home the hard hat.
Back to St. Clements on Sunday for the finals match up versus the Lincoln Blades. This time the Rangers didn't start slow. Instead the boys came out flying as they controlled most of the play and sent several shots toward the Lincoln goal. Noah Frankovich put the Rangers on the board first with a great shot that went upstairs in a hurry. Lincoln fought back and scored one of their own to even things up in the second period. The Rangers went on to dominate what was a great game until Lincoln squeaked one by from the point late in the third period. It was a tough loss for this great group of players who gave it their all during the entire weekend. The Rangers finished as 2nd place finalist in a 2-1 loss. Adrian Resovac's great play earned him the hard hat for this game.
It's never easy losing any game but each player worked extremely hard and several individual and team accomplishments were achieved this weekend. Great job Rangers!
